The Talbot Hotel in Cleobury Mortimer is a beautiful 16th century black and white building complete with old coaching steps outside. It is rich with history and the odd “ghost story”.
Ash Grange, a late Victorian mansion built in 1884, complete with coach house and stables, and has been converted into apartments and houses.
It is reported to have a ghost. A tall man dressed in a long, black coat that has a hood, or wearing a scarf. Resembles a monk, although there is no known monastery nearby. Usually has his head turned slightly away, so the face cannot be seen. It was seen in the 1970s hovering a foot above the ground by a motorcyclist.
The Mytoon & Mermaid Hotel is a grade II listed Building, built in 1735 standing on the banks of the River Severn, whose crypt is reputed to lead to a secret tunnel linking the building with the St Eata’s church. The Inn, whose origins lie in the days of the mail coach, is steeped in history. From the early 18th century the Inn was known as the Talbot Arms – name derived from the Earls of Shrewsbury.
The Croft Hotel dates back in parts to Tudor times, is Grade II listed, and as you would expect, is packed with period features a beamed ceiling and an inglenook fireplace create a wonderful ambience.
Ludlow Castle occupies a strategic position on the border between England and Wales and was the last to surrender to the Parliamentary forces in 1646. The castle dates from the 11th century but its haunting stems from the days of Henry II when it was in the middle of many border skirmishes
The castle is reputed to be haunted by Marion de Bruyere. She was on the side of the castle garrison who were holding out against a besieging force.
Back in September 2010 Paranormal United began discussions with Valley FM, the Bridgnorth Community Radio, to conduct a paranormal investigation of a historic building.
The name that came up was one of the oldest buildings in Bridgnorth, Bishop Percy’s House, built in 1580 it’s last inhabitants were the Bridgnorth Boys Club in 2003 and to our knowledge never investigated despite its reputation as one of Bridgnorth’s most haunted buildings.
